Changing the Conversation in Costuming ✺
The Bay Wardrobe Collective exists because we kept having the same conversations over and over again. Among groups of costumers and friends, we all wished for the same: community and camaraderie in an often isolating and competitive industry, relevant, accessible educational resources, and the visibility and respect that our work warrants.
If it isn’t already there, sometimes you have to create it yourself! We made it our goal to develop the professional development curricula we wish we had and build out the spaces for connection that had been slowly forming over the years. When you feel like you’re not alone, you can take a risk. If you fall, you fall into a net of others that will catch you.
The dream is for Collective members to be motivated to do work at a higher caliber, empowered to advocate for themselves and those around them, and proactive in creating the professional life that they want. And, if in the process, some of this leads to lasting industry change, then we’d be extra thrilled.
Our Mission
We are an interconnected network of professionals with a shared commitment to excellence in wardrobing and costuming.
We aim to create a supportive and sustainable industry for all through artist-run professional development, network building, and community outreach.

Our values are core to everything we do
We are here to uplift one another, not compete. We are all stronger when we work together.
Respect for the artistry, for the people we’re in collaboration with, and for the job itself.
All are welcome here, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or anything else.
Information, skills, and opportunities should be shared generously.
Safety is the most important thing! You are a person before you are a costumer, and your health and wellbeing come first.
Our Bay Area Roots
The spirit of the Bay Area drives everything we do at Bay Wardrobe Collective. The region’s history of artistic innovation, resistance to standardization, and its culture of mutual aid and support is deeply ingrained in our DNA.
The Bay Area has long been a place where creativity and collaboration intersect, and we’re proud to be a part of that legacy.
